It’s that time of year for raw organic blueberries! Blueberries are a scrumptious fruit that have one of the highest antioxidant capabilities. Antioxidants are nutrients and enzymes that counteract the process of oxidation in tissue. This sweet and sometimes tart berry gives us the diversity to add them to recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert!
Raw blueberries have the best flavour and nutrition. And we can enjoy this fruit all year round! Blueberries freeze very well and can maintain their nutrients. Did you know that 1 cup of organic blueberries contain 4g of fibre? Blueberries are low in sodium and high in Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and Vitamin E.
Preparing Blueberries
Blueberries are fragile but should be washed and gently dried. They can be added to shakes, cereals, yogurts, or salads. If you’re looking to harvest blueberries the old fashion way, visit a garden centre for a blueberry bush for the garden at home or visit one of many farms in Ontario to pick-your-own.
